The Angel Tarot from Doreen Virtue and Radleigh Valentine, really is a nice way to connect with the divination power of the Tarot and the message of the angels all in one.
One of the authors selling points for this deck is that you can use the Tarot without all of the negativity and ego based properties that some tend to associate with more traditional tarot card decks.
In the Angel Tarot there are a total of 78 cards, which are divided into 22 Major Arcana Cards, 40 Minor Arcana and 16 Court Cards. (The same basic structure as the most popular Rider Waite Tarot). There are however some key differences between these two tarot decks.
In the Angel Tarot deck, each of the Major Arcana cards (representing major lessons in ones journey through life) correlate perfectly with an Archangel, and their specific area of expertise, which can be incredibly helpful to know.
Really you could pull out these major arcana cards and just use them if you wanted to use the cards more like oracle cards than tarot.
What else makes these tarot cards different?
The authors, Radleigh Valentine and Doreen Virtue made it a point to use gentle words and beautiful images to convey meaning in the Angel Tarot, and some of the harsher sounding card names, and suits in the minor arcana have been changed as well.
For example, “the Fool card” in the Rider tarot is changed to “The Dreamer” in this deck.
The shocking “Tower” tarot card has been changed to “Life Experience” and the “Devil” card is changed to “Ego”.
These changes to the deck are all in line with staying connected to the gentle, loving, and light filled presence of the angels.
Beautiful and magical imagery is also used throughout the deck so that (almost) every card lifts and inspires through beautiful visual imagery along with providing insight. I say almost because there are a few cards I really don’t like…
The Lovers Card with Archangel Raphael example makes Raphael look like the joker or something, and there are a few more cards that don’t seem quite right, and yet still overall I enjoy the artwork in this deck enough to recommend it.
Other changes when compared to traditional tarot decks include the Suits…
Normally cups, wands, swords, and pentacles, the suits in the Angel Tarot have been changed to fire, water, air, and earth. The colors and artwork of the suits correspond accurately with the seasonal or quarterly elements that make up the year which is a nice addition to go along with this change.
Whether you are new to the tarot or an experienced tarot card reader, this is an accurate and powerful deck to use as it connects you with the assistance of Angels, and the spreads and system of Tarot.
The deck also comes with an informative guidebook, and will assist you in becoming more familiar and strengthening your connection with the angels and with the elements of the spiritual planes.
I personally own the Angel Tarot deck, and recommend it for tuning into the inspiring and meaningful guidance from the Angelic Realm.
With love and light,
